Just like a good reel, you don't want to have to think about your rod while fishing. You don't want to have to think about how to cast beyond and just to the left of that stump; you just want your rod to put it where you want it. You don't want to worry about whether you have to take a step back or not to punch the hook into a Largemouth's bony lip; you just want the rod to do it. The better a rod is, the more easily it will become just an extension of your arm. Now, some people will say, "I don't think about my rod when I'm fishing. Because it's in a rod holder with a bell while I nap." If that's your case, forget everything I just said.
