The Ski and Bow Rack Shop will make
your skis or board perform better!

Ski and Bow Rack can improve the performance of your equipment, and our work is guaranteed.

The quality of the base, the edges, and the waxes surface can have an enormous effect upon how your board or your skis will perform for you.

When a ski is not flat it is either concave (railed) or convex (base high). Either condition will make it much harder to control your skis. Railed skis are very grabby and make it difficult to enter a turn smoothly. Base high skis make it difficult to get the edge to grip the snow and will cause the ski to skid sideways in a turn or to be unstable at higher speeds.

When a board or skis do not have the edges properly beveled and sharp, it is very difficult to control the grip of the edges on the snow, particularly when carving. With proper bevel, the sweet spot is much easier to find.

Fine- tuning of the tips and tails will give your skis or board smooth entry into turns. It will also prevent excessive jerking when encountering bumps through the turn.

The texture and wax job are important for making your board or skis move smoothly over the snow. The texture breaks up surface tension, causes the snow to slightly melt, and can direct the excess water in wet snow to be channeled to the side. The wax will protect from moisture entering and causing damage, and will provide a surface that reduces friction for a smoother glide.

High performance tuning is done by hand, making for a perfectly smooth dressing of the edges. Bevels are more precise and without waves. The edges are polished smooth with diamond tools and finished with ceramic stones. This makes for an edge that will cut through ice and wear longer due to its smoothness.

These services are available in our pro shop:

  • $5.00 – Friction Wax – a quick and inexpensive wax job that will last a few days.
  • $15.00 – Iron Wax – will force wax deep into the pores of the base, making the wax hold up for a longer period of time. Regular friction waxing will then maintain your wax job for a longer period of time. We also will remove any burrs that have developed before we iron in the wax. All excess wax is scraped off and the surface is polished.
  • $5.00 – Fine Tune Tips and Tails – will help prevent skis excessive grabbing by the skis to make a smooth transition into and out of turns-this is an extra charge over
    either wax job.
  • $25.00 – Quick Tune – will provide you with sharp and properly beveled edges and fine tuned tips and tails. Burrs in the base are removed and wax is ironed in.
  • $50.00 – Major Tune – gives you a flattened base and a stone ground surface structure or texture on your base. The edges are beveled and sharpened, the tips and tails are fine tuned, and the wax is ironed in.
  • $5.00(extra) – Extreme Rust or Rounding of Edges – an extra charge for a quick or major tune.
  • $10.00 to $20.00 (extra) – Extreme Base Flattening – After excessive edge sharpening, skis can become unusually base high, and most new skis are extremely railed or even railed in one place and base high in another. Flattening such skis is an extra charge over the major tune charge.
  • $5.00 to $20.00 (extra) – Base Weld Repair – These repairs are ok for minor damage to the base (or a temporary repair of a core shot), and are an extra charge over the quick tune or the major tune.
  • $25.00 each (extra) – Base Patch – Major damage to the base can be repaired with a base weld, but such will not hold up or perform as well as a base patch. Each base patch is an extra charge over a major tune.
  • $25.00 (extra) – High Performance Tune – gives you smooth and polished hand dressed edges, which will be more precise and can last longer than a standard tuning of the edges. This is an extra charge over a major tune.
  • $35.00 – Mount Ski Bindings – We are certified to mount most major brands of bindings, both new and used. We can mount Marker and Salomon bindings, and we can mount some Look and Rossignol bindings.
  • $25.00 – Test Ski Bindings – ensures that your boots and bindings are compatible and in good working order. This also ensures that the boot to binding fit, forward pressure, and binding release settings are all properly set.
